NATURE OF JOB:
The Residential Direct Support Professional will report to the Residential Manager and have responsibility for ensuring the success of the clients of the Finch House. This position will be responsible for maintaining safety of the residents. Provides day-to-day direct care for individuals with IDD in a small home-like setting, including teaching & coaching in socialization, personal hygiene, homemaking & daily living skills. This position will ensure satisfaction of people served by The Arc of the Bay.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carries out designated program activities.
- Assists individuals with activities of daily living if needed including bathing, basic hygiene, feeding, toileting, grooming and ambulation.
- Trains individuals in desired skill acquisition programs, following Implementation Plan strategies.
- Teaches residents how to adopt basic independent living skills.
- Teaches and assists with social skills including a variety of community activities.
- Assists clients with daily personal tasks, including bathing and dressing.
- Completes housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes and tidying.
- Assists with light cleaning, housework, and laundry.
- Helps plan client appointments and organize a schedule.
- Prepares meals that adhere to special dietary considerations.
- Organizes transportation arrangements to appointments
- Shops for groceries and prepares meals that meet specific client dietary needs
- Encourages client engagement in social networks and communities
- Documents progress on assigned Clients’ program objectives and other necessary reports.
- Enters data into systems as required.
- Protects each resident’s rights and freedoms and maintains confidentiality of personal information concerning the consumer, in accordance with the Bill of Rights of Individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Persons.
- Utilizes the Therap System.
- Uses basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Email).
- Completes all required training.
- Performs personal care when needed.
- Drives company vehicle to transport clients.
- Coordinates and maintains needed supplies and equipment for the home.
- Maintains attendance/time sheets for clients.
- Interacts with co-workers, supervisory and administrative staff in a courteous manner that encourages a positive and cooperative work environment, in addition to talking to Support Coordinators, family members, health care professionals and others in a way that promotes a positive image of the organization and the people it serves.
- Completes and reviews paperwork as needed.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service training as requested.
- Willing and able to work flexible hours on occasion based on program needs.
- Regular reliable full-time attendance as scheduled.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of and ability to use data and/or word processing equipment and related software.
- Knowledge in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Previous experience in working with individuals with disabilities.
- Must possess a belief in the worth of individuals with disabilities.
- Must be able to speak, write, and comprehend English language.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License acceptable to the Agency and the Agency Insurance Carrier, or the ability to obtain within time limits established by the State of Florida.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of and ability to use data and/or word processing equipment and related software.
- Knowledge in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled environment and requires moderate exposure to disagreeable elements (e.g., irate customer and clients, extreme noise, heat, odors, heights and/or dust).
This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions. This position requires frequent lifting of 10-25lbs, and may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
